LONDON: Tottenham boss David Pleat defiantly insisted that Tottenham can escape the Premiership relegation trapdoor despite a 1-0 home defeat to Charlton which condemned them to ending 2003 in the bottom three.
Sunday's loss at White Hart Lane was their fifth in a row as Charlton joined Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Manchester United and Portsmouth as recent victors over the fallen London giants.
