BEIJING: A Chinese footballer has twice tested positive for the banned substance ephedrine and been banned for three months by his club in the first case of doping in China's professional football league.

Beijing defender Zhang Shuai tested positive in a random test last week and was required to undergo a second screening for confirmation, which was also positive, the China Football Association (CFA) said on Monday.
