LONDON: A missed drugs test has put the brakes on a footballing career which had propelled Rio Ferdinand from an inner London council estate to the luxury associated with being the world's most expensive defender.
The 25-year-old Ferdinand, banned for eight months on Friday for failing to take the test, has been a talking point in English football since establishing his credentials with West Ham United, where his professional career started in 1995.
