Weighlifter’s case will be heard at exco meeting

KUALA TERENGGANU: The issue of weightlifter Che Azrol Che Mat, who was left out of the Terengganu state incentive scheme, will be brought up during the weekly exco meeting.

The chairman of the State Sports Committee, Culture and Tourism, Wan Hassan Mohd Ramli, said that the selection committee responsible for recommending athletes for the incentives, would forward the matter in next week's meeting.

“I have received a report from the State Sports Council on the issue of Che Azrol,” he said.

Che Azrol, winner of the 105kg gold medal at the Vietnam SEA Games, was left out of the incentives list announced by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang two days ago.

Apparently, the Terengganu-born athlete is under the Pahang Sports Council's payroll and not registered with the Terengganu State Sports Council.

Among the athletes who received awards in the form of cash and plots of land were Nazmizan Mohamad, Mohd Najuwan Aqra (athletics), Mohd Marzuki Yusof, Mohd Syamsuri Mustaffa, Norisham Hassan (football) and Chairil Anwar Aziz (hockey).

Also missing from the list was petanque bronze medallist Mohd Firdaus Mohd Bakri, 19, from Kampung Gong Pasir, Dungun.

Meanwhile, Wan Hassan said that the awards ceremony would be held in January while a thanksgiving ceremony for athletes would be organised on Dec 23. – Bernama
