GREENSBORO (North Carolina): American athletes will be banned for life for steroid use, even for a first offence, the board of directors of USA Track & Field (USATF) unanimously recommended on Wednesday.
The proposal, which must be approved by USATF’s legal committee and general session here this weekend, is part of a get-tough “Zero Tolerance” programme by the US governing body, who have been criticised internationally for their handling of anti-doping cases.
