PETALING JAYA: The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) paid tribute yesterday to the late Ong Hoon Chin, who passed away on Sunday.

The OCM said that he was a hardworking, dedicated and long-serving official of the National Shooting Association of Malaysia (NSAM).

The OCM secretary, Datuk Sieh Kok Chi, said: “He was selected as an international technical official to officiate in the 22nd Vietnam SEA Games but unfortunately he was called to rest before the Games began.

“He was a great loss to Malaysian sport and in particular to the shooting fraternity.”

The 76-year-old Hoon Chin, a retired government servant of the Klang Municipal Council, was a qualified international technical shooting official and had officiated in many major championships, including the Asian, Commonwealth and SEA Games.

He also played a big role in the organisation of the Asian Championships, which will be held at the Subang Range in February.

“He was a very humble person, who got along well with everyone, at all levels. He would be deeply missed by everyone,” said Kok Chi.
