Peru players on strike over sacking of five

LIMA: Peru's professional footballers say they will not call off their strike until provincial club Alianza Atletico reinstate five players who were sacked for refusing to play a match.

The players went on strike nearly three weeks ago, saying they were owed U$800,000 in unpaid wages and bonuses, as Peru become the third South American country to be hit by a national players' strike in the last two years after Chile and Argentina.
