KUALA LUMPUR: The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) selection committee at their final meeting here on Tuesday approved appeals to include an athlete and a shooter in the 363-strong Malaysian contingent for the SEA Games in Vietnam in December.

The OCM president, Tan Sri Tunku Imran Tuanku Jaafar, said that high jumper Shabana Khanum and trap shooter Bernard Yeoh were the last athletes considered by the selection committee to join the contingent.

“The selection committee have overseen them during the selection. This is because both of them reside overseas,” he said.

London-based Shabana made it to Vietnam when she equalled the national record of 1.76m during a selection trial last month.

Bernard, who also stays in London, won a few competitions in Britain and submitted his records to the National Shooting Association of Malaysia recently for consideration.

“Shabana will be fully funded by the OCM while Bernard will be funded by the NSAM,” said Tunku Imran. – Bernama
