PUTRAJAYA: A book titled Dr Mahathir Mohamad Father of Sports Development in Malaysia has been launched in yet another tribute to the Prime Minister who retires at the end of the month.
The hardcover 215-page book in full colour traces Dr Mahathir's contributions, encouragement and devotion towards the development of sports in Malaysia.
Malaysian sports was fortunate in having a leader like Dr Mahathir with vision and total commitment towards the development of sports, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk M. Kayveas when launching the book at the OIC Expo here.
Under Dr Mahathir's dynamic leadership, Malaysians achieved various feats such as conquering the English Channel and sailing round the world and ably organising the Commonwealth Games in 1998.
The building of the Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil, the world class Sepang Circuit and expansion of sports facilities elsewhere in the country bore testimony to his determination to ensure the country developed in all fields, Kayveas said.
