England stars come under fire

LONDON: FIFA president Sepp Blatter, European governing body UEFA, a swathe of the English media and dozens of callers to radio and TV phone-ins condemned England’s players for threatening to boycott the decisive Euro 2004 qualifier against Turkey today.

The players had threatened to strike if Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand was not reinstated to the squad following his failure to take a routine drugs test last month.
