Suhaimi’s case: Malacca file protest

MALACCA: Hosts Malacca have filed a protest with the tournament technical committee over tournament director Ahmad Shukri's inability to arrive at a decision on the eligibility of former national player Suhaimi Ibrahim (pic) to turn out for Malacca.

Suhaimi, who has been working at Maybank's Malacca branch for the last three weeks had been registered with the state team but at Friday's team managers’ meeting, the player's home state, Negri Sembilan, had protested. Negri Sembilan also refused to release the player.

Shukri had not been able to make a decision and, after seeking MHF secretary S. Satgunam's advice, ruled that Suhaimi was a guest player and that a release letter from his HA was needed.

The Malacca HA, however, have contended that there is no need for a release from Negri because the player has complied with the minimum 14-day residential qualification and is now working in Malacca.

Malacca HA deputy president K. Balakrishan said: “We are abiding by the decision not to field Suhaimi, at least for the time being.

“But we will be seeking MHF's intervention to reverse Satgunam's decision or to hear our case again.”
