Nitties struggles to go on top

JOHOR BARU: Two bogeys and an unfortunate double bogey spoilt James Nitties' day although the top Australian amateur still took the lead with a three-under 69 after the first round's play in the Pan-West Malaysian Amateur Open golf tournament at the Royal Johor Country Club here yesterday.

It was a disastrous start by the 21-year-old Australia with bogeys on the first and third holes. However, Nitties checked the slide with seven birdies – on the second, seventh, eighth, 10th, 11th, 12th and 16th holes – to end the day with a three-under although he picked up another double bogey on the 14th.
