Sarjit tipped for the hot seat

KUALA LUMPUR: National junior coach Sarjit Singh looks to be the front runner to replace Paul Lissek as the new national senior hockey coach.

Sarjit was seen together with the Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) deputy president Tan Sri P. Alagendra at the National Sports Council (NSC) yesterday.

MHF management and coaching committee will be having a meeting today to name the new senior coach to prepare the team for the Afro-Asian Games in Hyderabad from Oct 24-Nov 1.

Neither Sarjit nor the outgoing senior coach Paul Lissek could be contacted but the other likely candidates said they had not been contacted by MHF officials.

Yahya Atan, who has been the assistant to Lissek since 1998, said he has not received any offer from MHF to be the national coach. Former national assistant coach Stephen van Huizen also said he had not been approached over the vacancy in the senior national team.
