Pacer Gul takes five wickets in Pakistan’s triumph

LAHORE (Pakistan): Lanky pacer Umer Gul registered a career best 5-17 to help Pakistan take an unassailable 3-0 lead with a 42-run win in the third day-night limited over international at Gaddafi stadium here yesterday.

The 19-year-old Gul destroyed the Bangladesh top order after Inzamam and Yousuf Youhana posted attractive half centuries to guide Pakistan to 257-9 in their allotted 50 overs.

Bangladesh managed 201-9 after their target was revised to 244 in 44 overs under Duckworth-Lewis formula following two lighting interruptions, first of 22 minutes due to short circuit and the second of 33 minutes due to malfunctioning of one of six towers.

This becomes Pakistans 300th win in 564 matches (with 246 defeats, six tied matches and 12 abandoned), second only to world champions Australia who have 322 wins in 544 matches).

In the five-match series, Pakistan won the first match at Multan by 137 runs and the second by 74 runs at Faisalabad. – AFP
