MADRID: Real Madrid defender Ivan Helguera is out of Spain's Euro 2004 qualifier against Ukraine next week after damaging his cartilage in his right knee in Tuesday's Spanish league draw at Villarreal, club doctor Juan Carlos Hernandez said on Wednesday.
Helguera will also miss Saturday's friendly against Portugal but his absence from the Ukraine match will come as a major blow as Spain trail surprise Group 6 leaders Greece by a point in the race to qualify for next summer's Finals.
