LONDON: Leeds United are hoping to sign Brazilian international Roque Junior from AC Milan, the English Premier League club said on Wednesday.
Roque Junior, who helped Brazil win the World Cup last year, is in Leeds with his agent for discussions, the club's official website reported.
“He's a player that we're in for, but I don't want to say very much until things develop further,” manager Peter Reid said.
“We're in negotiations and obviously things need to be tied up quickly because we're running out of time with regard to the transfer window, but we are hopeful.”
Milan said that they had agreed a deal to loan the Brazilian to Leeds for the upcoming season.
“Before Roque Junior signs the contract, which has not taken place yet, the player will be in England this evening to meet with Leeds officials. We just want to point out that nothing has been settled yet,” said Milan general manager Ariedo Braida.
Roque Junior, who joined the European champions in July 2000 from Palmeiras and will be 27 on Sunday, will not need a work permit as he holds a Portuguese passport. – Reuters
