ROME: Italian football authorities voted on Wednesday to expand Serie B by four teams, including twice-Serie A champions Fiorentina, in an effort to end a relegation battle that has raged all summer in the courts.
The unprecedented decision, taken just 11 days before the start of the new season, was made at a stormy meeting of Italy's football federation, which has come under heavy political pressure to sort out the mess.
