Brazil and Spain cruise into last eight


HELSINKI (Finland): Brazil beat Yemen 3-0 on Wednesday to finish atop Group C at the Under-17 World Championships while Spain downed the US 2-0 to go past the Americans and win Group D. 

The US meet Brazil, a favourite for the title, in the quarter-finals on Sunday while Spain meet neighbours Portugal. 

ADU DANCE: US player Adu beat Spain's Francis in their Under-17 world championship match. Spain won 2-0. The 14-year Adu has been booked for the future by Manchester United.

In a head-on fight for a quarter-final berth on Wednesday, the Portuguese led Cameroon 5-0 early in the second half, but Cameroon came back to draw 5-5 with late goals in the 88th and 90th minutes from Koel Nguemo and Etoundi Mbia, giving the Portuguese a scare. 

Portugal managed to hold the result and advance to the quarter-finals. Manuel Curto scored a hat trick for Portugal in eight minutes toward the end of the first half. 

In another game, South Korea took their first win, beating Sierra Leone 3-2. 

In the other quarter-finals, Colombia will meet Costa Rica and Argentina will play Mexico on Saturday. – AP
