KUALA LUMPUR: With a lead which puts him in a class of his own, a text book finish is all that Petronas EON Racing Team's (PERT) Karamjit Singh needs in today's third and final leg of the Malaysian Rally 2003 in Kluang, Johor.

Extending his lead to more than nine minutes ahead of New Zealand's Brian Green, Karamjit will only need to cruise through today's remaining four special stages to win hands down.

A distant third is PERT's newest recruit Adrian Lam in a 1600cc Proton Wira, a PERT statement said here yesterday.

Meanwhile, in the Perodua-AAM Malaysian Rally Championship, Karamjit built a lead of more than 11 minutes ahead of Perodua M5 Racing Team's Kan Chee Hong while in third place and a further nine minutes adrift is Adrian who also leads the Group N 1600cc class.

Today’s final leg will consist of another four special stages.

“We're hoping to stay out of trouble tomorrow. We can afford to take it easy and, barring any unexpected dramas, we should be on the podium,” said a delighted Karamjit. – Bernama
