Moya forced to work hard in Croatia

UMAG (Croatia): Defending champion Carlos Moya from Spain had a hard time beating Jiri Vanek from the Czech Republic to reach the second round of the US$400,000 Croatia Open on Tuesday.

Moya, who has won the tournament three times in the past, needed a tie-break in the first set to overcome the resistance of the persistent Czech player, ranked 138th on the ATP list. In the second set Moya took 3-2 lead on Vanek's serve and kept the advantage to win 7-6 6-4 after 86 minutes.
