SYDNEY: Oceania confederation football bosses are planning to avoid the embarrassing lop-sided blowouts with tiny island states which plagued the last World Cup qualifying tournament by devising a new format.
Under the plan Oceania heavyweights Australia and New Zealand would skip the initial phase of round-robin matches, which would involve 10 other nations in two groups of five.
