Cops make bid to host World Police and Fire Games

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will make a bid to host the World Police and Fire Games (WPFG) in 2011, their deputy director of management, Datuk Talib Jamal, said yesterday.

However, PDRM have to submit US$750,000 (RM2.83 million) in bid money before staking a claim for the right to stage the event.

“The Youth and Sports Ministry are supportive. We also have the venues but we have to find out whether we are capable of holding all the events,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after receiving the national flag from the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Omar, on behalf of the contingent bound for the 2003 WPFG, which will be held in Barcelona, Spain from July 27-Aug 3.

Talib, who is the chef-de-mission for the Games, said that the contingent expected to win 90 medals in Barcelona.

At the 2001 WPFG in Indianapolis, the contingent won 26 gold, nine silver and 11 bronze medals. – Bernama
