American takes yellow jersey, Mayo takes the eighth stage

ALPE D'HUEZ (France): Four-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong revelled in the discomfort of two of his rivals here yesterday as he pulled on the overall leader's yellow jersey following the eighth stage.

He labelled Tour of Italy champion Gilberto Simoni and 2002 Tour of Spain victor Aitor Gonzalez 'big mouths' and showing a lack of respect for the great race as their pre-race boasts of challenging him proved hollow with Simoni trailing him by over 20 minutes overall.
