PETALING JAYA: Syahnas Shahidan raced his heart out in the previous round in Johor but his efforts were not good enough as he could only manage to finish second.
The 22-year-old will be out to bury his disappointment in the fourth leg of the Petronas Sprinta AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship at the Kamunting Raya industrial area in Taiping this weekend.
The 2002 WIRA champion proved last year’s path to victory was no fluke as he continues to dominate the novice class this season. Only three rounds into the eight-round championship, Syahnas has made three appearances on the podium.
He took the chequered flag once and finished second twice.
The Team Petronas Sprinta Racing rider is currently leading the championship standings with 75 points.
Teammate Mohd Suhadi Ali Rahmat, who failed to finish the race in Johor, still retains his overall second spot with 41 points.
Noor Aziz Abdul Aziz, representing Team Shell KF Yamaha MIG, is also in joint second place.
“My bike gave me problems during the qualifying heats in Johor.
“Luckily I managed to finish second to earn 20 points,” said Syahnas yesterday.
“The challenge for me is to see if I can sustain my performance in the next few rounds and I hope I will be able to live up to expectations.
“It is still too early to predict my chances of winning the novice title but I will continue to work hard at it,” added Syahnas.
Meanwhile, riders who are interested in competing in the championship can contact Safe Aim Mutual Sdn Bhd at Tel: 03-8733 8787 or visit the championship’s website at www.malaysiancubprix.com.
Entry fee for the novice category is RM100 while the Yamaha 125Z Challenge is only RM50.
