Russian oil tycoon wants full control of Chelsea, says Bates


LONDON: Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich is seeking full control of English football club Chelsea after buying over half of Chelsea Village’s shares, the club’s chairman Ken Bates said on Wednesday. 

Chelsea announced on Tuesday that Abramovich, a 36-year-old oil and aluminium magnate, had agreed to buy Chelsea Village, which owns the club at Stamford Bridge, in a cash offer valued at nearly £60 million (US$100 million).
