European Grand Prix likely to go up in smoke

PARIS: European Grand Prix racing could become a thing of the past after Formula One authorities scrapped plans for a ban on tobacco advertising.

The International Automobile Federation (FIA) have said they withdrew the ban, due to come into effect at the start of the 2006 season, on legal advice and now call on promoters and competitors to cease all forms of tobacco sponsorship from October 1, 2006, when the season ends that year.
