Harris bent on taking injured players to Prague

BY ERIC SAMUEL

PETALING JAYA: Players down with injuries in the pre-Asian Cup squad are in the team for a 10-day playing tour of the Czech Republic.

National coach Allan Harris in a surprise move said that he did not want to risk leaving behind the injured players for fear of teams fielding them in domestic matches before they recovered fully.

“Their injuries are not serious. But to rush them in to play matches may aggravate their injuries.

“Taking them along will give me a chance to keep tabs on their progress as well,” said Harris at the Wisma FAM yesterday.

Among those down with injuries are striker Akmal Rizal Rakhli, midfielder Subri Sulong, goalkeeper Azmin Azram Abdul Aziz and defenders Irwan Fadli Idrus and Yosri Derma Raju.

The 25-member squad will leave for Prague this morning.

They are down to play against four club sides as their build-up for the FA Premier League (FAPL) Asia Cup next month.

The FAPL Asia Cup tournament, which will be played at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil from July 24-27, features English Premierships' Chelsea, Birmingham and Newcastle.

Beside the FAPL Asia Cup, the national senior team are also down to play in the pre-Asian Cup in October – in Group F against Bahrain, Iraq and Myanmar.
