GISBORNE (New Zealand): The player who punched a referee and sparked a strike in New Zealand last month has accepted a life ban after officials appealed against his original 10-year suspension.
Pene Fotuaika punched referee Fred Barwick in a Poverty Bay club match on April 12 but his subsequent 10-year ban incensed the local referees' association, who said it was too lenient.
