BANGKOK: Defending champions North Korea defeated Japan 3-0 and China beat South Korea 3-1 to advance to the final of the Asian women's World Cup qualifying series, as the third-place playoff took on extra importance.
China was guaranteed a place at the World Cup, starting September in the United States, despite losing the hosting rights during the height of the SARS epidemic and regardless of their performance at the Asian championships.
