MADRID: Joan Laporta, the man who wants to bring England skipper David Beckham to Barcelona in a US$50 million deal, became the president of the Spanish giants on Sunday.
The landslide win paves the way for the 40-year-old lawyer Laporta to push ahead with his publicly-stated desire to bring Beckham to the Nou Camp after English champions Manchester United announced that they had agreed to sell the player to the Catalan side.
