TOM Watson (pic) shot a scintillating five-under-par 65 for a share of the US Open lead with qualifier Brett Quigley on Thursday as defending champion Tiger Woods eked out a scrappy opening round of 70.
An inspired Watson, at the age of 53, eagled the par-four 12th and birdied two of his last three holes to record his lowest score at a US Open since 1987 on “a very special day”.
