SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan, led by 2002 Asian Optimist champion Alvin Yeow Jian Shing, won the overall national schools (MSSM) sailing championships at the Pantai De Rhu Beach Resort, in Kuantan from May 23 to 28.
Alvin won gold medals in the Sponsors Expert, Individual Expert and Team events for the Negri side to emerged as the MSSM Best Boy sailor.
The Best Girl award went to Sabah's Rifina Tan Hong Mui.
Alvin said: “I am happy to win three events for Negri. Our team was well-prepared as we had three days of training in Kuantan before the event. The waves in the east coast are big and choppy compared to the west coast.
“My strongest rivals were Perak sailors Mohd Alif Jimin and Hazwan Hazim Dermawan.”
In the sponsors race, a total 47 sailors took part in the Expert and 66 in the Novice categories.
