Former Wales great Ford dies after long illness


CARDIFF: Former Wales centre forward Trevor Ford, once the most expensive player in British football, died in Swansea on Thursday after a long illness, the Football Association of Wales said. He was 79. 

Ford, born in Swansea in 1923, scored a then Welsh record 23 goals in 38 internationals between 1946 and 1956.
