Hazman to wed in the morning and play in the FA Cup final at night

KANGAR: It will be a big day tomorrow for Perlis midfielder Tengku Hazman Raja Hassan. And he hopes that it will end in double joy.

The 26-year-old former Selangor player will be in Klang in the morning to solemnise his marriage (akad nikah) with 21-year-old Rosmalisa Abdullah. After the ceremony, he will make a dash for Ipoh to be with his team for the FA Cup final against Negri Sembilan.

He will return for the wedding ceremony (bersanding) the next day.

KING FOR A DAY: Tengku Hazman gets help from teammates Khairun Haled Masrom and Phillimon Chepita as he tries out a "tengkolok" for his bersanding ceremony on Sunday.

“The wedding date was picked long before the Cup final date was fixed,” said Tengku Hazman yesterday.

“And after we beat Penang in the quarter-finals, I held discussions with Rosmalisa and both our families agreed that we have a two-part wedding if Perlis make it to the final.

“I want to thank her for being so understanding to allowing me to make my dream of playing in a FA Cup final a reality.”

It will not be the first Cup final, though, for Tengku Hazman. He was in the Selangor side who were crowned Malaysia Cup champions last year. He also has an FA Cup winners' medal to show but he saw no action for Selangor in the 2001 final against Sarawak.

“Yes, I have an FA Cup winners' medal. But I did not get to play in the final because of suspension. Now I have the chance to do so and I do not want to miss it for the world,” said Tengku Hazman, whose wife-to-be is pursuing a degree in computer science at the Institute Technology Mara (ITM).

“I hope I can return for the bersanding with the winners' medal. It will be another fitting wedding gift for Rosmalisa.”
