KANGAR: Seasoned rider Shahrul Nizam Tajuddin blazed through the hot weather to win the experts' class race of the second leg Petronas Sprinta AAM Malaysia Cup Prix Championships at the Stadium Utama Complex here yesterday.
Astride a Shell KF Yamaha MIG, he completed the 12-lap race in 8:30.13 to beat teammates Shahrun Nizam Tamin and Wazi Abdul Hamid to second and third respectively.
First-leg winner Abdul Rahim Sidek could not withstand the pace and finished a dismal sixth in 8:41.55. As a result, the 23-year-old lost his place at the top of the overall standings to Shahrun Nizam, who now has 40 points. Abdul Rahim is second with 35 points.
With his victory yesterday, Shahrul climbed to third overall with 31 points. He bagged six points in the first leg.
Mohd Syahnas Shahidan of Petronas Sprinta Racing won the 12-lap novices' race, showing a marked improvement to snatch the overall lead from Mohd Suhadi Ali Rahmat.
The third leg will be held in Johor next month.
