KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu government yesterday presented land titles to 24 members of the state football team who won the 2001 Malaysia Cup.
The 24 members, including their former coach Mohd Zan Mat Aris and former captain Zulharisham Awang, received the land titles from State Education, Dakwah and Syariah Implementation Committee chairman Datuk Harun Taib.
The plots of land are situated at Kubang Parit, about 10km from Kuala Terengganu and has a market value of RM28,000 to RM45,000.
Those who were regulars in the team received a larger plot compared to reserves.
The land titles were given to the team to fulfil the state government's promise to reward them for their outstanding performances in 2001 when they came close to winning the Premier I title.
Terengganu FA deputy president Datuk Yahaya Hashim said that currently the team are at the bottom of the Premier I this year because of the departure of several key players.
“There are many inexperienced players, who are around 20-years-old, in the present team. Hopefully we can mould them into better players soon,” said Yahaya.
Aside from Mat Zan and Zulharisham, the other recipients were Hairuddin Omar and Wan Rohaimi Wan Ismail, who are now playing for Pahang, Rosdi Talib, Abdul Ghani Malik, Sapian Abdul Wahid, who has moved to Sarawak, Zubir Ibrahim, Faziallah Mamat, Subri Sulong, Mohd Nafuzi Mohd Zain, Mohd Mazuki Yusof, Nor Fazly Alias, Mohd Syamsuri Mohd Mustafa, Roshadi Wahab, Shahrul Nizam Sahat, Alfian Aziz, Mustaffa Kamal Abdul Wahab, Zairo Anuar Zailani, Zainudin Ismail, Tengku Alias Tengku Ibrahim, Mohd Ariffin Musa, Zainal Abidin Abu Bakar and Mohd Shahrul Ezrain Shamsuddin.
