ALOR STAR: Kedah’s four-match winning streak was brought to an end with a 0-2 defeat by a disciplined Sabah side at the Darulaman Stadium here last night.

Goals from Liberian striker Josiah Seton and pint-sized midfielder Shahril Arsat were enough to condemn the Hijau Kuning outfit to their first home defeat this year.

Having conceded just four goals all season and keeping a clean sheet in the previous four matches, the Kedah players and the 20,000 fans were in shock after Sabah hit them with two goals in just 12 minutes.

DANGEROUS PLAY: Kedah's Mohd Rafdi Abdul Rashid (left) and teammate Ooi Hoe Guan tussle with Sabah's Reithuddin Emran (in white) for the ball during their Premier I match at the Darulaman Stadium Tuesday night. Sabah won 2-0.

Two moments of magic from Zainizam Marjan allowed Seton and then Shahril to punish the static Kedah defence.

Off their first attack of the night, Zainizam floated a long ball upfield for Seton to chase. The Liberian hit a stiff grounder on the run which flew past Mazlan Wahid in the Kedah goal.

The home team came back strongly and Mohd Rizal Harunarsid’s effort from the edge of the area flew just wide.

But from the ensuing goalkick, Sabah pushed forward and got their second goal.

It was Zainizam again who played the role of feeder, this time releasing Shahril down the middle to side-foot home the second goal.

Kedah chased the match for the remaining 78 minutes but found goalkeeper Khairul Azman Mohamad a major stumbling block.

Even when Mohd Rizal managed to beat the Sabah goalkeeper in the 49th minute, the crossbar stood in Kedah’s way.
