Japanese too strong for Kiwis

TOKYO: Japan rested Ai Sugiyama from her singles rubber but were still too powerful for New Zealand as they cruised to a 3-0 win at the Fed Cup Asia-Oceania zone Group One tournament here yesterday.

Third seeds China, who will challenge top seeds Japan in Pool A round robin today, posted three easy wins over Hong Kong. Indonesia’s Angelique Widjaja and Thailand’s Tamarine Tanasugarn played two matches each to give the second and fourth seeds 3-0 wins. The two teams will face each other today in Pool B. – AFP
