OSLO: Former Manchester City and Nuremberg striker Uwe Roesler has been diagnosed with cancer, his Norwegian First Division club, Lillestrom, announced on Monday evening.
Roesler, 34, scored the only goal in his side’s 1-0 win over Bodo Glimt in the first game of the Norwegian season last week but subsequently went to a doctor because of a persistent cough which led to a tumour being found in his chest area.
Roesler has been capped five times by the former East Germany and played for Dresden and Nuremberg before moving to England to play for five years with Manchester City.
He then returned to line out for German Bundesliga side Kaiserslautern before joining Lillestrom. – dpa
