Fours referees suspended in Bulgaria

SOFIA: The Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) on Friday suspended four referees until the end of the season for poor officiating.

“BFU’s referees commission decided to stop Georgi Narlev, Georgi Videlov, Yordan Ivanov and Valeri Petrovski from officiating until the end of the season for poor officiating,” commission spokesman Asparuh Yassenov told reporters.

Yassenov said another referee, Yordan Stalev, must pass a physical on April 24 or he will also be suspended until the end of the season.

The Professional Football League (PFL), who administer the Bulgarian championship after the winter break, had called for seven referees to be banned but the commission decided not to suspend Dimitar Dimitrov and Zhivko Dimitrov.

BFU president Ivan Slavkov admitted earlier this week that some referees had made “flagrant, striking errors”.

The referees’ commission also ruled that Videlov had made a formal error during Saturday’s Premier League match between CSKA Sofia and Cherno More Varna, but that it had not affected the game.

Cherno More won the match 2-1 and the BFU’s sports and technical commission are expected to decide whether the match will be replayed next week. – Reuters
