What the state teams say

  • JORGEN LARSEN (Kedah coach): The introduction of the Super League will make this year's competition keener. Football is all about competition and unless they are prepared to be professional in their approach, teams are going to be left behind. With only eight teams in a Super League, the FAM cannot simply take our players away to national duty unnecessarily because we cannot afford to lose key players.

  • IRFAN BAKTI (Penang coach): It is a promising move to separate the elites from mediocre teams. There will certainly be better quality in the M-League next year. Teams not doing well will have to start pulling up their socks if they want to finish among the top six to win automatic places in the Super league.

  • ABDULLAH MOHAMED (Kelantan coach): The Super League may just end up like the present format in Premier I. It won't make much difference reducing the number of teams from 13 to eight. Having to play three rounds is not fair. It should be four - two home and two away. And I don't see the need to allow another foreign player because he will deny a local a place in the team.

  • JALIL RAMLI (Sarawak coach): The Super League looks interesting. Teams will have to fight hard to gain entry. It will have a big impact on the on-going Premier I and Premier II competitions. We hope it will help to draw back the fans with quality matches. Sarawak do not have a club team in the M-League but the FAM are in the right direction to get clubs involved.

  • JUSTIN GANAI (Sabah coach): A good move by the FAM. It is the right time because the present Premier I and II are getting stale and stagnant. The present leagues have showed no improvement on the field or earned teams better gate collection. They are dull in many aspects and teams are playing to empty stadiums. A good move to allow teams three foreign players. Crowds come to see good players and I am sure the foreigners will help bring back the fans.

  • RALF BORGES FEREIRA (Pahang coach): I am sorry. I have been here for only four months and I am not in a position to say what is good or bad. But if the changes are for the better of Malaysian football, why not? From what I have read in the newspapers, the changes look very interesting. I will have to get more details on it from the locals. Until then, I reserve my comment.
