Cops found negligent in tragedy

HARARE: Zimbabwean police officers acted negligently when they fired teargas at football fans on terraces provoking a stampede which left 13 people dead at an international match here in July 2000, a court ruled on Friday.

Magistrate Faith Musinga made the ruling after an inquest hearing which had opened last November into the tragedy at the Zimbabwe vs South Africa international, state radio reported.
