KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will send 10 players to the Asean Schools Table Tennis Championships, which will be played in Cebu, the Philippines, from July 21-27.
The Education Ministry's acting director of the sports division, Abdullah Junus, said that the 10 players, including five girls, would be picked from the Malaysian Schools' Sports Council (MSSM) tournament, which will be played in Miri from June 3-6.
Earlier, Abdullah announced the sponsorship of the MSSM tournaments by Win Sports Trading Sdn Bhd, the licensed distributor of the German-made Tibhar table tennis gear in Malaysia.
Under the sponsorship deal, the company will provide equipment for every MSSM-organised competitions from June. The sponsorship expires in 2008.
The firm had also sponsored the National Table Tennis Championships in Kedah last year. It is also the official sponsor for the Asean Schools competition in the Philippines.
Abdullah also said that the MSSM had no plan to recruit foreign coaches as it had many local trainers with accreditation from the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). – Bernama
