BOGOTA: Colombia have banned players from lifting their shirts up during goal celebrations because of pressure from sponsors.
Players all over South America frequently celebrate goals by raising their club shirts to reveal t-shirts underneath bearing messages dedicated to wives, children, girlfriends or Jesus Christ.
But the Colombian League (Dimayor) have threatened to slap a US$560 fine on any player who indulges in such a celebration from now on.
An addition has been made to the championship's disciplinary regime in that players will be fined five minimum salaries if, in the moment they celebrate a goal, they lift up their shirt or take it off, said a statement issued by the Dimayor. This is to offer protection to the sponsors of the teams. Reuters
