Blades need late goal for a draw

LONDON: Canada's Paul Peschisolido scored a late equaliser to give Sheffield United a 2-2 draw at home to Gillingham in the English First Division on Tuesday.

Striker Steve Kabba put United ahead just before the interval but goals by Simon Osborn and Paul Shaw midway through the second half turned the match the visitors' way.

Peschisolido salvaged a point for the home side in the 81st minute when he turned home a Michael Tonge corner.

United remain third in the standings, occupying the first of the four promotion playoff places two points above fourth-placed Reading, four ahead of Nottingham Forest and six above Wolvers.

Norwich City kept up their bid to snatch a promotion playoff berth with a 1-0 home win over Wimbledon, thanks to a first-half strike by David Healy.

They are eighth, equal on points with Ipswich Town but five behind Wolves.

Portsmouth, who are 14 points above Sheffield United, and second-placed Leicester City, three points behind the leaders, occupy the two spots with automatic promotion. – Reuters
