Perak endurance race attracts 50 teams

TAIPING: A total of 50 teams, including those from Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei and Hong Kong, will be taking part in the inaugural Perak International Iron Bound Challenge Series 2003 here.

State Tourism Action Council (MTPN) chairman Mohd Zuhuri Ahmad said the event would cover the Bukit Merah Challenge on May 18 and the Lata Kijang Challenge, near Tapah, on Dec 21.

The event, which is a multi-endurance race, is organised by the SNR Adventure Consultant in collaboration with the MTPN and the Perak government.

“We hope that the event would help us to promote Perak's tourism industry and make the state one of the world's endurance sports destinations,” he told reporters here. SNR Adventure project manager Shamsuri Abdul Latif was also present.

Mohd Zuhuri said each team would have three competitors.

The participants would undergo road running, mountain biking, jungle and swamp crossing, river and lake swimming as well as rock climbing over a distance of 80km.

Last year, the “National Geographic Action Asia Challenge 2002” was held at Bukit Merah. – Bernama
