Jiranek ready to keep giants Milan in Czech

ROME: Reggina's Martin Jiranek is looking forward to picking up three easy points when third-placed AC Milan visit the Serie A strugglers today.

“Milan are a terrible team – absolutely terrible,” he said, tongue firmly in cheek on the club's official website, www.regginacalcio.it.

With Milan already in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and 23 points ahead of their Southern opponents, Jiranek was joking, of course.

But the Czech Republic defender was perfectly serious when he said a win was far from impossible against their illustrious opponents, as the fourth-from-bottom Calabrians go in search of a sixth successive home win.

“The way in which we have come through our recent home matches unscathed shows the character and determination of this team,” he added.

“We have won five in a row at home and there is no reason why we shouldn't continue this positive run.”

Milan's Georgian defender Kakha Kaladze is out for a fortnight after straining his thigh, while Brazilian wing-back Serginho is still nursing a leg injury.

Reggina, meanwhile, welcome back striker Gianluca Savoldi from suspension.

In today's other match, table-toppers Juventus, who are almost guaranteed a place in the Champions League after beating Deportivo La Coruna on Wednesday, host Modena, unbeaten in their last five matches.

Juve captain Alessandro Del Piero, out of action for more than five weeks with a thigh injury, could make an appearance on the bench for the Italian title-holders after resuming full training.

The pace of Dioumansy Kamara and Fabio Vignaroli could prove a handful for Juventus' ageing defence, while Italy Under-21 international Giuseppe Sculli will be eager to show what he can do against the club who own him.

Modena duo Omar Milanetto and Luca Ungari are available for the Delle Alpi clash after serving suspensions.

Inter Milan, who themselves edged closer to a last eight spot in the Champions League after Tuesday's 2-2 draw at home to English side Newcastle, welcome second bottom Como to the San Siro tomorrow.
