Late goal denies Pahang victory over Negri Sembilan

MALACCA: Crafty Pahang had to dig deep into their reserves to hold hard working Division Two outfit Negri Sembilan to 1-1 draw in the second round FA Cup first-leg away match at Hang Tuah Stadium here last night.

The late equaliser in the 86th minute by Azrin Effendy Saninuddin robbed Pahang of a expected victory after Azizul Kamaluddin had put them in front in the 36th minute.

To make things worse for them, Pahang coach Ralf Borges Ferreira was also sent off by Forces referee Halim Abdul Hamid in the closing stages for dissent.

Pahang finally opened accounts in the 36th minute when a shabby defence allowed Azizul to beat unsighted Zurami from close range.

Still opting for an offensive mood in the second half, Pahang continued troubling Negri. However, inept finishing by Azizul and Hairuddin left the visitors frustrated.

Negri, banking solely on Azman upfront, lacked imagination and flair. And it was left to substitute Azrin, to snatch his team's equaliser against the run of play.
