The 28-year-old Kum Zee cleared 2.14m in a Federal Territory competition on Sunday to beat the qualifying mark of 2.13m, which was the height recorded by the silver medallist at the last Games in Kuala Lumpur in 2001.
Kum Zee, a father of a four-year-old son, said that he was not at all surprised to beat the qualifying mark in his very first competition of the year because he had worked on it since his failure to win a medal in the Busan Asian Games last October.
