IPOH: Malaysia Sports School (MSS) dominated but still had to settle for a 1-1 with host Anderson Xybase in a Junior Hockey League match at the Azlan Shah Stadium here yesterday.
The Sports School's attractive build-ups had the Anderson defence in trouble particularly in the second half but they just could not find the finishing touch.
The visitors also found Anderson's defender Baljit Singh in a very uncompromising mood.
And it was Anderson who opened the scoring in the 4th minute through top striker Fazreen Eksan Kulub Wahab but MSS were quick to reply, with Mohamed Noor Wahi Ismail finding the target four minutes later.
The draw meant MSS and Anderson are tied on 13 points each from six matches.
In Kuantan, meanwhile, defending overall champion Telekom Pahang stayed on track with a 7-2 whipping of Johor Sports Council 7-2 at the Kuantan Hockey Stadium.
Two early field goals in the 6th and 7th minutes of the game had Johor SC reeling. And they were buried in an avalanche as Telekom scored again from outfield play in the 21st, 39th, 43rd and 65th minute. They also converted a penalty corner in the 45th minute.
The visitors replied with two goals in the 27th and 63rd minutes.
Md Izwan Hassan scored the opener followed by Mohd Zulkifli Abdullah, Arifuddin Bakri, Ahmad Kamil Mokhtar, Mohd Redza Maadun and Ahmad Faisal Mohd while Zulkiffli Md Rejab converted the penalty corner.
Coach Izwan Suhardy said his plan had been to start scoring quickly.
And it had worked. However, he was preaching caution as they will face Tenaga Nasional next today.
We are not going to get the chances we got today against Tenaga. My boys have to be wary of Tenaga's S. Bubalan, S. Silvarajoo and Fairoz Hamsor, he said.
